Mother’s Day Tea

Oh it was delightful. Eleven little ladies, ages 6-10, filled my home with their giggles, flounces, and pinkie-raising. Yes of course I knew what I was getting into! I invited the girls over for a tea party where we would be working on surprises for their mothers, just in time for Mother’s Day. It was a very busy 2 hours so I wasn’t able to get many photos. In the following photos you’ll see us drinking our ridiculously tasty Vienna Cinnamon tea (my favorite, theirs too now!). We also enjoyed heart-shaped brownie bites, sponge cake with fresh whipped cream and berries, cream cheese mints, cucumbers with fresh herbed cream cheese, and baguette. That’s right, caffeine and sugar. Because I am not their mother, I get to make those kind of choices.

Every last cucumber slice was eaten, in case you’re wondering.

After they snarfed…er….sampled their treats, the girls set to work on their crafts. Each girl got to fill a mason jar with fresh flowers for her mom, decorate the jar, and make a special card to go with it. That was sweet, and very cute. Thanks Leanne, Leah, and Julia for all your help with that!

While they worked on crafting upstairs, I took the girls downstairs one at a time. I perched them on a stool in front of a pretty backdrop and set to work on the real Mother’s Day gift, a one-of-a-kind video. I interviewed each girl with some very challenging questions like “What is a mother?”. They had no time to prepare which made their answers that much more heartwarming…and hilarious. I worked on the video that evening and sent it out that night so the moms could see it in the morning. It was several hours of work but so worth it!

Enough from me, listen to these sweet things…

And finally, thank you Hazel. Thank you for inviting me to your tea parties. Thank you for always having those wonderfully fancy hats for us to wear. Thank you for teaching me by example to be hospitable and generous. Thank you for loving each of us as your young sisters in Christ.

  1. This was SO special….as I shed tears of joy remembering Hazel, I can only imagine the joy this brings to the Moms of these sweet girls! Great job, Laura!

    • Thank you, Joye! I hope it brought much joy to their mothers. I hope they can see how much their daughters truly love, admire, and are thankful for them!

  2. Laura,
Thank you for sharing your picures and video (you are so talented)!!! I’m sure you made wonderful memories for those little girls, and their mothers must have been delighted with their mother’s day gift from the girls and you!!! My mother would be humbly honored to know you were touched by her acts of love, kindness and hospitality. I remember mom talking of the plans she would make… for treats, and activities – it was somthing she loved to do!!! She loved all of you very much!!! Showing God’s love through hospitality (with a cookie & some tea,…and a smile) was a gift she had, and looks like you do too!!! :-)

    • You’re welcome, Linda! I think the moms (and others!) did enjoy it. I learned so much from your mother, but I admit that when I was younger, it didn’t feel like “learning”. I was absorbing though, and now I can fully see, understand, and appreciate so many of her wonderful qualities! I will never forget her. (Or her hat collection, haha! :) )
